"I feared for my life when I saw those two guys with guns next to me"

To talk about Carroll is to talk about one of those players who could have been and wasn't. He was painted as a great star, but in the end he didn't manage to shine at the level he was expected to.
In his youth, and just like now, the burly striker played for Newcastle and then in 2011 he went to Liverpool for more than 40 million euros. A transfer that from the very beginning stressed him out.
"I had an injury when I signed for them. The day of the medical test I was only thinking: 'please go bad'. As soon as I got on the plane to go to Liverpool, I wanted to go back. I knew that one day something would happen and I would return to Newcastle," he confessed to the 'Daily Mail'.
Carroll also reviewed his injury-stricken career, especially in his ankles. "I had an operation and it all went downhill from there. It was so bad that I had frayed ankle ligaments," said the striker, who nevertheless sacrificed himself many times for his team.
"My last match with West Ham I played with a totally broken ankle. I told everyone I was fine. I felt huge pain that day and I thought 'I can't do this again'," Andy explained.
Finally, the striker spoke about the assualt which he fell victim to in November 2016. A traumatic event that made him rethink certain things.
"I seriously feared for my life. Two armed robbers chased me for 25 minutes. I could see their guns. I was close to home, so I ended up turning around and going back to the West Ham facility at full speed," said the then London-based player.
"I was dodging cars at a very high speed, going through traffic lights. I went past the speed cameras, overtook on the motorway in the opposite direction... I could see the cars and trucks flying past me. And all this with the thieves following me on my bike," he explained.
It was a terrible experience that made a footballer even more hardened who, at just 30 years old, still has a lot to say in his beloved Newcastle.
