From perfection to chaos in just seven days

A week is a long time in football, and nowhere is that more true than at Real Madrid right now.
'Los Blancos' started their defence of the Champions League crown with a dominant 3-0 win at Santiago Bernabeu, with the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo seeming to go unnoticed as Isco, Gareth Bale and new signing Mariano stepped up.
The loss is Seville this Wednesday makes the state of Julen Lopetegui's team look a lot more precarious, as they were utterly out-played by a passionate and tenacious Sevilla team who had plenty of chances to score even more than they did.
Particularly worrying was the way in which the Madrid defence seemed to be carved open on numerous occasions, with any of Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane or Marcelo being caught out of position and failing to get back in a hurry is a worrying sign.
While it is obvious that it will take time for the 'Madristas' to adapt to the new style of play that the coach wants to implement, the desire and standards set are not something that should have dropped since Lopetegui has arrived.
Only Gareth Bale showed a consistent level of desire to get something from the game, with the rest of the team looking lax and inviting pressure on to their goal.
Not only did Real deserve to lose, they were ultimately lucky it was only by a three goal margin.
