Frenkie de Jong a doubt for Newcastle United clash after injury

Barcelona have had more bad luck than usual over the past week in terms of player injuries. Alejandro Balde suffered an injury in training that will keep him off the pitch for around a month, and Gavi's knee problems are more serious than expected, with the club considering that he may need surgery.
Frenkie de Jong was the latest to join this list when the Catalans confirmed that the former Ajax player was leaving the Netherlands squad due to muscle problems, without specifying how long he would be unavailable for Hansi Flick.
However, according to Spanish journalist Javi Miguel of 'AS', the Dutch star is certain to miss the next La Liga match against Valencia at home on Sunday 14th September, although that is not the worst news.
According to the Spanish journalist, De Jong could also be out for Barca's opening match of the 2025/26 Champions League, in which they visit Newcastle at St James' Park on matchday 1 of the League Phase, in a match that promises to be a big test for Flick's Barcelona.
