There could be significant changes to junior football over the next few years if FIFA decide to move forward with their proposed new layout for the younger World Cup.
It would involve a huge expansion of the tournament to include 48 teams, doubling in size from their current 24-nation format, in addition to the merger of the two age groups - Under-17 and Under-19.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino discussed the plans with member associations during summits in Nigeria and Mauritania earlier this week as the organisation attempts to streamline the youth football calendar.
The proposed changes would mirror that of the senior competition, which has been expanded from 32 teams to 48 under Infantino's presidency.
England experienced unprecedented success during the summer as both their youth age groups secured World Cup victory and if FIFA move ahead with their proposal, their triumphs would forever be etched in history.
