De Jong wants to stay at Barca beyond 2026

Frenkie de Jong has changed the opinion of many Barcelona fans. He has gone from being one of the players most people wanted to sell, especially because of his performance based on his salary, to winning back confidence by playing as a defensive midfielder alongside Pedri.
The irruption of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado made him react. The Dutchman, in this stretch of the season, is Hansi Flick's favourite to set up the attack from the back, to start the way to the opposing goal.
All this has meant that, according to ‘Mundo Deportivo’, the midfielder wants to stay at the club. His contract expires in June 2026, so this was the last summer in which the club could make a financial gain from a possible departure.
The club, explained the source, is willing to renew him, but the last word will be Hansi Flick's. Given the confidence that the German coach has in the Dutchman, the continuity of the midfielder seems close.
De Jong has made it clear that, if he leaves, it will not be for free out of loyalty to the club. But his primary intention is to renew his contract beyond June 2026.
