De Jong’s new deal with Barcelona nearing completion

FC Barcelona are close to completing the renewal of Frenkie de Jong before the end of the month, according to reports from Quim Casademunt of Diario Sport. The Dutch midfielder, whose current contract expires in 2026, has accepted a significant pay cut to remain at the Azulgrana club.
De Jong will now be paid around 17 million euros gross per year, significantly less than his previous figure. This restructuring will allow Barcelona to improve their Financial Fair Play situation and facilitate the signing of new signings for next season.
De Jong's continuity is seen as key to Hansi Flick's project, who has made him a key player in midfield. The player has repeatedly expressed his intention to renew and his commitment to the club:
"I think I will sign a new contract with Barca. I can't be 100% sure, but if everything goes well, it will happen. My intention is to renew this summer, but we'll see what happens. It's a negotiation and we can't say when (it will be finalised). The important thing is that both parties want it and I think we will reach an agreement," he said to 'Voetbalzone’.
