The 'Daily Mail' revealed on Thursday that the English side are considering the possibility of bringing back the goalkeeper three months after letting him go. The reason? Andre Onana's possible presence at the next African Cup of Nations.
The tabloid explains that MU were surprised to learn that the Cameroonian had decided to pull out of international retirement and that he would therefore play in the 2024 African Cup of Nations in January, potentially missing up to eight games.
The lack of confidence in Altay Bayindir, Onana's understudy, and Tom Heaton, the third goalkeeper, has led the Red Devils to consider the return of De Gea, who is still available after refusing to accept an extension from the club, who wanted to drastically reduce his salary.
According to the same source, this would be a short-term contract for the 32-year-old keeper, who has been criticised by supporters in recent years.
