Atletico edge Bayern Munich in tight encounter

On the balance of play, Atletico Madrid deserved to win the game, although it was as close as the scoreline suggests.
The early stages of the match passed without any real chances, but the first clear-cut opportunity fell to Thomas Muller. The forward was on the end of a chipped ball from midfield, but couldn't volley past Oblak who made a decent save.
Atletico responded well with Carrasco testing Neuer from outside the area and Torres hit the post with a close range header which really should have hit the back of the net.
However, Torres wasn't made to rue his missed chance as Carrasco soon put Atletico ahead. The Belgian forward struck a low shot from just outside the area which went in with the help of the post.
Before the interval, Bayern Munich almost found an equaliser through Franck Ribery, but the Frenchman dragged his shot onto the outside of the post and out for a goal kick.
In the second half, Bayern tried their best to find a goal, but were reduced to half chances by a resolute Atletico defence.
Muller headed wide from a corner, Alaba forced a save from Oblak and Lewandowski headed just wide, but that was as close as the German side got to an equaliser.
Atletico should have sealed the win as they were awarded a penalty when Vidal bundled over Felipe Luis in the penalty area. However, the normally prolific Antoine Griezmann smashed his effort against the bar.
The 'Rojiblanco's' held on for a hard-fought victory, leading scenes of the ever-animated Diego Simeone geeing up the crowd on the final whistle.
