Despite having ten changes made to their starting XI, Real Madrid overcame Leganes at the weekend, something that pleased head coach Zinedine Zidane.

With one eye on the return leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich next week, Madrid fielded a very different team and it was still enough to seal all three points.

Goals from Gareth Bale and Borja Mayoral steered 'Los Blancos' to a 2-1 victory, leaving Zidane pleased with the effort shown by his players at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

He told reporters after the victory: "I'm pleased with the attitude of players today with ten changes and guys who haven't had much playing time. The attitude was exemplary.

"It was a fantastic first half and we dropped off a bit in the second, but we took the three points.

Turning his attention to the league as a whole, Zidane added: "We can't be happy with our performance in La Liga overall. We dropped too many points early on but we have improved".

Following the victory, Madrid sit in third, one point behind city rivals Atletico, but 12 off leaders Barcelona who play Deportivo on Sunday evening
