The 35 year old midfielder re-joined the Greek club in September from Manchester City, but he has failed to meet the manager's expectations and has been asked to leave.

Yaya Toure has been released by Olympiakos just three months after he made a return to the Super League club, as manager Pedro Martins has spoken of how the player has 'fallen short of expectations' during his time with side.

The midfielder left Manchester City in the summer after eight years in England, and opted to rejoin the club he spent a season with during his early career.

However after only playing five times all season, Touré's contract was terminated and he was seen attending training this week in order to bid farewell to his team mates.

According to Greek radio channel 'Sport 24', the Ivorian has been asked to leave the club at the request of the manager.

Toure has enjoyed a marvellous career across the continent; winning the Champions League with Barcelona, the Premier League title three times with Manchester City, the Africa Cup of Nations and African Footballer of the Year on four seperate occasions.

Yet sadly it seems that the veteran has failed to live up to his star billing, and thus is an Olympiakos player no longer.
