Although a few days ago it was said that Barca were not going to prioritise the signing of a right-back, things could change. The reason? Xavi believes that a player for that position would give a leap in quality to the team.
The coach has long been asking for a defender for this particular position. He believes that it would be key to aspire to more in the 2023-24 season and not just anyone will do.
'Sport' claims that he has urged the board to sign Juan Foyth. He believes that the Villarreal player has the perfect profile to join the club.
The Barca board will try everything in its power to make Xavi's wish come true, but they see it as complicated to get him to Camp Nou. Villarreal are a tough nut to crack and the player's clause is 60 million. The Yellow submarine refuse to lower the price and would not accept to include players in the operation to make it cheaper for Barca.
The alternatives if Villarreal do not let Foyth leave would be Pavard, from Bayern, and Meunier, from Borussia Dortmund. Jorge Mendes has also reportedly offered Cancelo, a City player now on loan at Bayern. None of them, however, are as interesting to Xavi as the Argentinian.
