Xabi Alonso retired at the end of last season as one of football's all time greats, and despite having played for some of Europe's biggest teams and winning everything there is to win in the game, he still holds his boyhood club cose to his heart.

"If one day I decide to become a coach, I'd like to return to Real Sociedad and do the best I can for the club as I did when I was a player," he said, speaking to 'AS'.

He went on to reveal the benifits of retirement: "When you’re a footballer, sometimes everything that happens in football, everything that surrounds it, is difficult to manage. [I had a] kick-about with some friends at Christmas. I haven't played since."

Alonso is a native of San Sebastian, and made 114 appearances for the club before he signed for Liverpool. He went on to play for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as earning 114 caps for Spain.
