Xabi Alonso has returned to his former club Real Madrid to coach the U-13 side, as he looks to go in to management in the future.

The former midfielder was appointed by 'Los Blancos' on a 12 month deal as he continues to study to attain the necessary UEFA coaching badges to manage senior professional teams.

Having spent six years with the club, in which he made over 200 appearances and won five major trophies, the Spanish giants have afforded him the opportunity given to other club legends such as Raul and most famously Zinedine Zidane to get a start in coaching at youth level.

Alonso has been known to want to go to the management side of the game now that he has hung up his boots, and has visited his former coach Pep Guardiola in Man City training to pick up tips.

He will be able to draw upon the experience of working under the best coaches of the last two decades, including Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.
