Will Sturridge get an England call?

Danny Sturridge has been in great form so far this season, but does he deserve an England call up as a result?

The talent that Sturridge has at his disposal is something that has never been in doubt, with his finishing ability being in full view in the last week in the two games against Chelsea.

After the retirement of Jamie Vardy from international football following the World Cup, there is an opening for a striker to fill that void.

Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are virtual guarantees in the next England squad that Gareth Southgate will announce, but the place of Danny Welbeck could be up for grabs after he has failed to get many minutes in an Arsenal shirt.

Of the English strikers operating in the Premier League, Sturridge is definitely one of the more talented individuals, but his injury record is always a worry.

Southgate has showed that he is preparing the England team for the long term and will not just include players in the team on temporary form if they don't fit the mould, as shown in the case of Troy Deeney.

And while Sturridge is 29 now, and is not the future of the England team by any means, he will provide valuable experience at international level with the 26 England caps he has earned, as well as the incredible finishing ability he offers.

In the absence of Vardy, why not include someone who knows the demands of international football and is in great form?

Gareth Southgate's answer will come in the coming weeks.
