The captain of the Spain national team, Sergio Ramos, was whistled on various occasions during the clash between Malta and Spain.

The motive: The good relation Malta enjoys with England, the Premier League and Liverpool. They don't forget the way Ramos injured Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final.

Possibly even Ramos himself didn't understand why he was being whistled, with the first instance happening when his name was announced before the game on the stadium's loud-speaker.

But it also happened on various occasions during the match. But it is unsurprising when Malta's strong links with Great Britain are considered, with many of the country's population big fans of the Premier League.

They didn't forget the way that Ramos apparently purposefully injured Salah in the 2018 Champions League final, and made that very clear.
