Harry Kane was the butt of the jokes on Sunday, after he failed to score in Tottenham's FA Cup loss to Manchester United, and even the FA Cup's social media account joined in.

Sunday was a day to forget for Tottenham, as they lost their eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final, going out in a 2-1 loss against Manchester United at Wembley. The defeat led to Spurs getting ridiculed on social media, with many seeing the exit as another example of the club's inability to get a result when it really matters

It is now ten years since Tottenham won a trophy, and they have been incapable of converting their improvement over the last few years into tangible success, despite having put together arguably their best squad in decades.

One of the main targets of abuse was Harry Kane, as the side's top scorer failed to find his shooting boots when he was needed. It wasn't too surprising for the forward to receive a bit of flack, however one person he wouldn't have been expecting ridicule from was the FA Cup's Twitter account

The official profile of the tournament joined in with the jokes after the semi-final, posting a video of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling saying Harry Kane's name, with the caption: "What's that in your pocket Chris?". The post received over 28,000 retweeets, adding insult to injury for the Tottenham captain.

Speaking after the game, Kane himself was obviously frustrated with his performance, but dismissed talk that he was still feeling the after-effects of an injury.

"I feel good, I feel sharp," he said when asked about his fitness. "Sometimes as a striker, you go through spells.I have scored two goals in four games, it is not terrible form."

"It is frustrating because, in these big games, obviously as a striker you want to score goals and help the team, but it wasn't to be."

He admitted that the defeat was painful, but called on Tottenham to finish the season strong.

"This one hurts and it probably will do for the rest of the season but we have still got a job to do," he stated.

"That is all we can do, four games left now, the only thing to play for is the top four and it is important that we do it."
