Arsenal completed the last training session before facing Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. The positive news for Arteta was the presence of Ben White and Jurrien Timber, who both look set to start.

Arsenal trained on Monday, just over 24 hours before facing Real Madrid, with Ben White, who wore knee protection, and Jurrien Timber, two of the possible solutions in defence for Spanish coach Mikel Arteta.

White, who has missed much of the season through injury, started at the weekend against Everton and played 60 minutes in the draw against the Toffees, but appeared with protection on his left knee

The Englishman trained for the 15 minutes open to the media with the rest of the squad, alongside Timber who is tipped to partner William Saliba in the heart of defence.

If White is fit, he will occupy the right-back position, while if the Englishman does not arrive in time, Arteta can manage several options.

The most logical one is to put Jakub Kiwior at centre-back and move Timber to right-back and the other is to place Timber at centre-back and reposition Thomas Partey, who would play at right-back. This, however, would force Jorginho off the bench.

The session organised on Monday at Arsenal's Sports City, on the outskirts of London, was supervised by Andrea Berta, the club's new sporting director, who arrived a few days ago and will have the task this summer of finding a new No. 9 and a midfielder.

Arsenal are aiming in this tie to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 16 years.
