It seems just yesterday that fans from all over the world were getting excited by the prospect of seeing Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo line up alonside each other, but as time has passed, the chance of seeing them in the same starting lineup has diminished significantly.

Much of their disappearance can be traced back to the Spanish Super Cup, which in many ways was the beginning of the end for the trio. Bale and Benzema started the first leg, with Ronaldo coming off the bench to replace the Frenchman with 20 minutes to go. Meanwhile, only Benzema featured in the second leg, with neither Ronaldo nor Bale playing a single minute.

Zinedine Zidane has always been a manager who likes to rotate and spread the minutes across his squad, something that has occasionally caused him problems given the pool of quality he has access to.

In fact, during Zidane's first season in charge of 'Los Blancos', Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo only started together in 9 of 27 games, with those numbers dropping slightly to 16 of 50 the following campaign.

Between Ronaldo's suspension, Bale's injuries and Benzema's loss of form, the 'BBC' endured a nightmare start to the season, but Zidane continued to back his men.

However, the trio have scarcely played alongside each other this season, with all three starting in just 4 of 53 games.

With Barcelona cruising to the title, the Champions League is Real Madrid's only possible salvation, leading to yet more rotation, somehting that is only linkely to cause the triumvirate to be used together even less.
