Manchester United legend Steve Bruce gave an interview to 'William Hill' and spoke about the transfer of Moises Caicedo to Chelsea. The 62-year-old admitted that Newcastle tried to sign him when he was in charge of the English side.

Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window for £115 million from Brighton & Hove Albion but several European clubs were also interested in his services.

"I've always dreamed of playing for Chelsea. I'm very happy to be here. I've been a Chelsea fan since I was a kid," he said in his first interview for his current club's press.

Manchester United legend Steve Bruce, who coached several English sides such as Newcastle and Sunderland, revealed in an interview with 'William Hill' that the Magpies tried to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder.

"When I was at Newcastle we tried to sign Moises Caicedo for £4.5 million and I remember thinking what a good player he was. The chief scout at Newcastle, Steve Nixon, came and told me that I had to see him play and that he was sensational," he said.

Nonetheless, the 21-year-old decided to continue his career with the Seagulls. "He ended up choosing Brighton instead of Newcastle and that will go down as one that we missed out on because now he’s gone on to become the British record transfer fee for £115 million, but he is a top, top player," Bruce added.
