"When I saw Hazard play... I thought that he was the best in the world"
Ex-player André Schürrle gave an interview in the German newspaper 'Bild' in which he spoke about his references, his favourite manager, and his early retirement.
André Schürrle, ex-Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund player, amongst others, and world champion with Germany in 2010, gave an interview in the German newspaper 'Bild'.
The ex-player hung up his boots at just 29 after a career from more to less: "People will remember me for the World Cup final in Brazil. I know and I am not offended, far from it".
"However, I prefer that when they think of me it's because I was a nice guy, attentive to the fans and normal. A person of flesh and blood, nothing more. Waking up in the morning and seeing that I am a person like that is what makes me happy", he added.
He was also asked about his idols: "I've had some very good teammates, very good ones, but no one like Eden Hazard, Lahm or Götze. I remember the first time I saw Eden. I thought he was never going to get anywhere until I saw him play. I thought he was the best in the world. With Lahm and Götze, I realised when I trained with them that I wanted their qualities".
"It may sound strange because we didn't always have a good relationship, but Thomas Tuchel was the coach who took me to my best level. He knew how to bring out all the football in me and I cannot be more grateful to him", he added about the PSG manager.
