Elite footballers tend to live almost on a different planet, but Edinson Cavani is no regular footballer, showing on a recent visit to his hometown of Salto that he is just like any other Uruguayan.

Various sources in Uruguay have picked up on a series of photos that show the PSG star displaying his more humble side back in his homeland.

A world away from the designer clothes that usually adorn the French capital, Cavani was seen dressed like any other resident of Salto as he hopped aboard public transport on the way to Montevideo to link up with the national side.

Cavani is thought to earn €13m per year at the Parc des Princes, a figure only exceeded by big-money buys Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Following Zalatan Ibrahimovic's departure from the French capital, the Uruguayan was briefly the highest-paid player in Ligue 1, before his new team-mates joined the club's ranks last summer.

The images of Cavani aren't the first that show a football in a more positive light, though they are the most recent example as football's finances continue to spiral into the obscene.
