Timo Werner's name has been linked with Real Madrid in recent months, and now 'Sky Sport Germany' claims Zidane's team believes the German can become Karim Benzema's replacement.

Timo Werner is one of those players who's links to half of Europe's greats have been going on for quite some time. The RB Leipzig striker continues to shine and has already scored 23 goals and nine assists in 25 matches.

El Desmarque' and 'Daily Star' claim that the German player counts with Zinedine Zidane's blessing. Real Madrid are needing a natural goalscorer and Werner has proven he's got what it takes.

Sources claim the Spaniards are definitely going to make a move for the player, but not much is known in terms of when. This is confirmed by 'Sky Sport Germany', which places Timo Werner as the generational replacement for Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman is 32 years old and is expected to extend his contract until 2022, making him 34 when it ends. Meanwhile, Werner is only 23, would make him an ideal footballer to take over from Benzema, who arrived in Madrid when he was 21.

The journalist Marc Behrenbeck claims that Real Madrid are following the forward with "intensity": "It's a matter of time that Real Madrid contacts Werner and makes an offer".

However, the negotiation to take Werner away would not be an easy task. Other clubs like Chelsea or Manchester United would be behind the young striker, who would compete with the Madrid team for the signing of one of the candidates for the Golden Boot.
