Tottenham Hotspur have agreed with UEFA that they will have their first Champions League match at Wembley.

With work on Tottenham's new stadium still ongoing and behind schedule, the club had already announced they will have to play at Wembley until at least October 6th when they take on Cardiff in the Premier League.

Their Champions League opener will be played on either the week commencing September 17th or October 1st, so the new stadium will not be ready.

Tottenham have now stated that: "We have agreed with UEFA that the first home matchday of this season's Champions League group stage, scheduled on either matchday one or matchday two, will be staged at Wembley Stadium.

"Both matchdays are due to take place between our two Premier League home fixtures against Liverpool [Saturday 15 September] and Cardiff City [Saturday, October 6], which we confirmed last week had been switched to Wembley.

"As a further update, should we be drawn at home in round three of the Carabao Cup [week commencing September 24], then we can apply for special dispensation from the EFL board to reverse the fixture or play at a neutral venue as both our new stadium and Wembley are unavailable during this week."

Indeed, there is still speculation as to where Spurs will host their game against Manchester City on October 28th, as Wembley is not available due to an NFL game and Spurs' new ground will likely not be ready either.
