Huddersfield head coach David Wagner says his team have the "character" and "togetherness" to build on their first win of the season against Fulham.

The Terriers moved off the bottom of the Premier League on Monday with their 1-0 victory, courtesy of Timothy Fosu-Mensah's own goal, and Wagner believes it can act as a springboard for the rest of the campaign.

"This result will help us for the whole season because we have the experience from last year," Wagner said.

"There will be comparable games where you have to deliver a result and a performance and we have done it.

"This is very important for the future because we will have similar situations in the next seven months and we know we are able to deliver and this will help.

"I'm very proud of how the players have done it. It wasn't a lucky win or a win they didn't deserve. It was a win with real spirit and they played with style and that is what makes me proud.

"To be totally honest I haven't doubted the character or the mentality of this group. They have shown too much in recent weeks and I have seen them every day in training.

"I feel the atmosphere in the dressing room as well. We have never had the atmosphere or the mood of a team which has gone 10 games without a win or is bottom of the league.

"It is different because of the character and the togetherness of the group and because of the performances as well.

"They have seen that they have performed well without the points and because everything is still very tight in the table.

"Even with a poor start going 10 games without a win we were always in and around the area knowing that with one win we are absolutely back in the race and this is what's happened and we can build on it."
