Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock admitted that he benched Harry Arter for the side's trip to Anfield in order to prevent the player picking up a suspension for the crucial upcoming match with Leicester City.

Harry Arter was left out of the Premier League clash with Liverpool, in order to prevent the player from picking up a suspension for Cardiff's upcoming games against more suited opposition, acdording to boss Neil Warnock.

Known for being a feisty character on the pitch, Arter was at risk of being suspended for Cardiff City's match with Leicester City this week, and so his manager opted not to risk the player at Anfield.

Warnock confirmed his decision in a chat with the media after the defeat at Anfield, stating: "‘I didn’t want to risk Harry Arter. He would have got booked in the first five minutes."

The Cardiff boss also admitted that his team had played well at Anfield, but were ultimately outclassed by Liverpool, saying: "We gave a good account of ourselves, but we were struggling body-wise. You don’t get the top five every week. It only takes a second and that bit of quality catches you out. We have played all the top teams and we haven’t really been pasted even though the scorelines suggest we have. "

Arter should now be fresh to face Leicester City next weekend, that is if the match still goes ahead, in light of the tragic helicopter crash of club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha which occurred outside the King Power stadium on Saturday evening.
