Wagner positive about winless Hudderfield's prospects
David Wagner is sure his Huddersfield team can retain their Premier League status this season, after a tough away draw against Burnley at Turf Moor this past weekend.
Wagner's side are still without a win so far in the Premier League, yet the 'Terriers' boss is more than optimistic of their prospects in the English top tier this campaign.
Following a hard-earned point away to Burnley, Wagner spoke encouraging words for his players, saying: "I'm more than confident because our performances in the last weeks are good, sometimes like this one very good. We look brave, we've shown great unity on the grass and in the stands."
The German continued: "So we have everything apart from the first win, but we have 30 further games to get it fixed and I'm confident that we will get the points we need if we perform like we have in recent weeks consistently."
If the 'Terriers' are to improve however, their strikers will need to start weighing in with goals; none of their assigned forwards have notched in any competition so far this campaign. Their only four registered goals have come from three defenders and a midfielder, their goalscorer at Burnley was midfielder Christopher Schindler.
After the match, Huddersfield manager David Wagner was asked about the performance of striker Laurent Depoitre, following another goalless display, and a headline-grabbing dive, branded "ridiculous" by Burnley boss Sean Dyche. Wagner said: " His performances in the past were very good and goals will come if you consistently perform on a high level. Points will come, goals will come. It's not easy mentally to stay strong, to show confidence and bravery in the situations when you don't collect the points."
Huddersfield will hope that their next fixture proves fruitful; a difficult home tie against title-chasing Liverpool. Although the 'Terriers' will back themselves to get a result, in light of their recent good performances at home against the top opposition.
