Mario Vrancic was full of praise for the Norwich City fans that spurred the side on to a 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Vrancic scored an 86th minute penalty to win the game for the Canaries, who had dominated the match but could not find a way through until the Bosnian's intervention.

Norwich have now won their last five games in all competitions, propelling them to 5th in the Championship and only three points off the top spot.

Vrancic was modest about his own role in the win after the match.

“I tried to have an impact from the bench and it was very important that I scored the crucial goal, so I am very happy about it,” he said to the club's official website.

“I don't think it was our best performance, but we take the win and it was a big fight.

"You have to use any minute you get from the Boss, and that’s what I did today. I try to have a big impact and it was crucial for the game.

“It’s always strange to judge your own performance, I’m just trying to have a great impact on the game. Not just me but everyone needs to use any moments you get on the pitch. I think I played well and got the goal which was crucial for the victory.

Last season I think we would have drawn or lost the game because we would have conceded a goal but we didn’t.

Norwich will take on Frank Lampard's Derby on Wednesday in what will be one of the Canaries' toughest tests of the season.

“If you are close and if it's a tight game it is always important to get a clean sheet, especially at home and that’s what we did. We need to keep going and if possible have a better performance against Derby on Wednesday," Vrancic added.

“It gives us a great boost during the game and I want to say thanks for the support again and please keep going like this.

"I think every win is important and it gives us some confidence and a great feeling. We have great momentum but we need to carry on.

"Four wins in a row and five with the cup is a great momentum but we need to keep going especially against tough opponents like Derby. It is going to be very tough so we need to be prepared.”
