Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres has been recognised as the top goalscorer of the 2024/25 season, lifting the Gerd Muller Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris.

While Kylian Mbappe claimed the European Golden Shoe, Gyokeres received the Gerd Muller Trophy for his sensational campaign with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

The 27-year-old finished the season with 54 goals in 52 official appearances, including 39 in 33 Portuguese League matches, securing his status as the league's top scorer.

"The season has been tremendous," Gyokeres said at the gala alongside fellow award winner Ewa Pajor. "Winning the Portuguese League and Cup was special, but my ambition has always been simple: to score goals. Receiving this award is a great honour."

His rise to stardom was not instant. After starting at Brommapojkarna in Sweden's second tier, he had spells at Brighton, Swansea and Coventry in England, gradually making his mark in the Championship before moving to Sporting Lisbon.

Over two seasons in Lisbon, he scored an astonishing 97 goals in 102 games, firmly establishing himself as one of Europe's most prolific forwards.

This summer, Arsenal secured his signature for over €65 million, and he has already opened his account in the Premier League with three goals. The Gerd Muller Trophy recognises his exceptional scoring record and celebrates a striker who has truly flourished on the European stage.
