Xabi Alonso achieved promotion to the Second Division with Real Sociedad B, the team where he had also started his playing career. They are back in the second tier for the first time after a sixty-year long absence.
Real Sociedad B faced Algeciras in a Segunda B play-off final last weekend.
After a goalless first half in Extremadura, the Andalusian side took the lead in the 50th minute after an own goal by Ezkurdia. The Basques were back on level terms 12 minutes later when Figueras put through his own net. It remained 1-1 and so the game went to extra-time. Algeciras needed a goal in extra-time as Real Sociedad B finished in a higher position in their group, but they were unable to get it. Karrikabutu put Sociedad B 2-1 up after 105 minutes and Algeciras saw Fran Serrano dismissed in the closing stages.
