On 23 March 2014, Lionel Messi scored this goal as Barcelona won 3-4 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu and became El Clásico’s all-time top goalscorer, surpassing Alfredo Di Stéfano’s 18 goals. Messi went on to score a hat-trick and reached 21 Clásico goals. He ended up scoring 26 goals against Real Madrid before joining PSG.

Barcelona travelled to play Real Madrid in a La Liga match back on 20th March. Aubameyang (2), Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres scored in a comfortable 0-4 win for Xavi's men.

However, we take you back to a thrilling contest between the sides in 2014. Andres Iniesta gave Barca a seventh minute lead, but Benzema levelled after 20 minutes. A few minutes later, Benzema scored again, but Lionel Messi struck just before the break to make it 2-2. After 55 minutes, Real Madrid were given a penalty which Cristiano Ronaldo, but Barca won 3-4 thanks to two Messi penalties after 65 and 83 minutes. The goals took Messi past Di Stefano's tally for the number of El Clasico goals by a single player and you can watch the hat-trick in the video above!

Real Madrid and Barca both ended that season on 87 points with Barca ending in 2nd due to a superior head to head. Atletico Madrid were the champions with 90 points after a 1-1 draw at Barca on the last day.
