Alassane Pléa inspired his Borussia Mönchengladbach side to a superb win in the Revierderby.
The Frenchman opened the scoring just 14 minutes in to give Borussia the lead at the ReihnEnergieStadion and Stefan Lainer doubled their advantage just two minutes later.
Things were fairly even after that until Lars Stindl converted a penalty 56 minutes in to secure the three points.
FC Koln got one back late but it wasn't enough to mount any sort of comeback.
