Belgium started their comeback against Japan on Monday night, courtesy of a bizarre Jan Vertonghen header.

Trailing 2-0 to the 'Blue Samurai' after an action-packed start to the second half, Belgium were in need of some inspiration and it came in strange fashion.

A Belgium corner was whipped in, with Kawashima unconvincingly punching it clear.

the ball was then put back into the mixer and Vertonghen was somehow able to loop a header over the top of the Japan 'stopper and into the far corner from practically the byline to reduce the arrears.

It was a truely odd goal, but as they say: they all count.
