Video Assistant Referee (VAR) systems will be in place at the World Cup. For the first time, fans in the stands will get the chance to watch replays on the big screens.

One of the major drawbacks of VAR has been the confusion that strikes in the stadiums. When the referee consults the video assistant on a big decision, fans are often left in the dark about what is happening and are left puzzled in their seats for long periods.

Whilst supporters at the World Cup will be kept informed as to what is being decided, they will not be shown replays until a decision has been reached

This news comes just 24 hours after Aleksander Ceferin, the president of UEFA, announced that VAR will not be used in the Champions League in the near future.

Speaking to 'Gazzetta dello Sport,' Ceferin expressed his doubts about the technology's use at the World Cup: "I have some fear for the World Cup, where we will have referees who have never officiated with the VAR."
