Liverpool have confirmed in an official statement that Virgil Van Dijk has undergone successful surgery after the serious injury that he suffered to the ACL in his right knee. Now, the recovery period that could stretch into next season begins.

Liverpool player Virgil van Dijk has undergone a successful operation on the ACL in his right knee and will remain sidelined for the rest of the season.

"The Liverpool defender’s planned operation took place in London and was conducted successfully. Van Dijk will now immediately focus on the beginning of his rehabilitation with the support of the Reds’ medical department."

The team doesn't want to put a timeline on his recovery but they expect him to miss the rest of the season at least.

The Dutch centre-back was seriously injured after a clash with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby two weeks ago.

The time since has been a nightmare for Jurgen Klopp, who has also lost Joel Matip and Fabinho to injury. They are now desperately searching for a new centre-back.

The only choice that they have right now is to promote 19-year-old Rhys Williams, who played in the Champions League this week in place of Fabinho.
