Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed his heartfelt support for those injured during the club’s Premier League trophy parade, stating he is "praying for a speedy recovery" after a car crashed into crowds in the city centre.

Nearly 50 people, including four children, were injured when a car ploughed into the crowd in Liverpool city centre on Monday.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old British man on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

Van Dijk used his social media to send a message of encouragement to those affected: "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone who suffered injuries. We are with you all."
