Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde was happy to see his team's spirit as they fought back to win against Rayo Vallecano.

Rayo Vallecano were just minutes away from a famous victory against the Catalan giants, but victory turned in to defeat within the blink of an eye.

Trailing 2-1 in the 87th minute, the LaLiga leaders fought back to claim a 2-3 win thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele and in-form striker Luis Suarez.

The result opens up a four point gap between them and Atletico Madrid in second, and puts them seven points clear of arch rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking after the match, manager Valverde heaped praise on the spirit his side showed in grabbing the three points in such dramatic fashion.

"I was happy with the victory. Our attitude was always the same, to go for it, and that's what gave us the win," the former Atheltic Bilbao coach told Barcelona's official website.

"We started well, but then we lacked depth. We had many problems with our opponents and once they scored, they grew in confidence.

"In the end we had to go for it, trying to find finishes from within the area, and if that couldn't be achieved, trying another way. The important thing is the character of this team."
