Manchester United have reiterated their desire to keep the Frenchman, and have advised him that he is staying at Old Trafford in January, regardless of what happens between himself and manager Jose Mourinho.

The Premier League club have no intention of selling Paul Pogba in the upcoming January transfer window, in spite of the player falling out of favor under manager Mourinho.

Pogba has been dropped for the 'Red Devils' last two matches and had to make do with a substitute role for the visit of faltering Fulham last weekend. He was replaced in the side by youngster McTominay and summer signing Fred.

Jose Mourinho has already stated that the Frenchman will be in the starting XI for United trip to Valencia on Wednesday in the Champions League, with the manager set to heavily rotate his side.

Yet the fact that Pogba only gets to return to the side in a dead rubber fixture, United are already through to the competition knockout stages, shows how much he has fallen from grace since the start of the season.

In surprising comments at the weekend, his manager spoke of how he only had 'the potential to be a fantastic player', despite him becoming a world champion in the summer and being named on the UEFA Team of the Year shortlist, the only United player to do so.

The ongoing battle between the manager and star player at United has led to Pogba wanting to depart the club, just two years after rejoining from Italian giants Juventus.

Pogba has made no secret of his desire to leave, with former club Juventus keen to take him back to Turin.

However Manchester United are set to stand firm against the advances of a host of European giants, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, as they are keen not to let the marquee player slip through their fingers once again.
