Manchester United have bolstered their academy with the signing of one of the brightest prospects in the England youth set-up.

English publication 'The Daily Mail' reports that midfielder Charlie McCann has completed a move to the 'Red Devils' from League Two side Coventry.

The youngster is a boyhood United fan and an England U16 international.

The Coventry-born playmaker will link up with United's development squad, following in the footsteps of the likes of Tahith Chong, Nishan Burkart, Millen Baars and Joshua Bohui who have all joined the clubs youth ranks in recent years.

Coventry's academy manager Richard Stevens told the club's official website that the 'Sky Blues' could not stand in the youngster's way when United came knocking.

"When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience," he explained.

"We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved. He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August.

"Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the academy."
