Manchester United star Ashley Young is being tipped to gain a spot in England's World Cup squad, ahead of Tottenham's Danny Rose and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand.

The Manchester United player has impressed this season at Old Trafford and is said to have drawn Gareth Southgate's attention. Young joined Mourinho's side from Aston Villa in 2011 for an undisclosed figure reported to be between £15million and £20million.

The 32-year-old was called up for the November friendlies against Germany and Brazil, replacing Young late on in the second game, and is likely to retain his spot on the squad for games against Holland and Italy later in March. It is thought that Southgate has been impressed with Young's performances for United this season.

Young has emerged as a real contender for the England left-back position, despite having only recently transitioned from winger to defender. His contention for the unfamiliar position, intensifies the pressure on Tottenham's Danny Rose, who has been benched for much of the season in favour of Ben Davies and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand, who is preoccupied with avoiding relegation at the bottom of the Premier League.
