United 'beat City' to capture of Polish starlet

Manchester United have reportedly beaten rivals Manchester City to the signing of Polish 'wonderkid' Lukasz Bejger.

Bejger is a 16-year-old centre-back who can aso play at right-back and is currently on the books at Lech Poznan.

'The Manchester Evening News' reports that Bejger spent a period on trial with United last year and a deal was agreed to sign him during January, with the youngster set to join the new batch of scholars in the United youth system at the start of next season.

City had also been linked with Bejger but it is reported that United scout Piotr Sadowski, who joined the club from Poznan last year, helped alert United to his potential.

The youngster has captained Poland's U16 side on occasion, having made eight appearances since making his debut earlier this season.

United have made a habit of bringing in talented youngsters from overseas in recent years and that trend looks set to continue.
