The Bayern Munich goalkeeper was centre-stage against Real Madrid for all the wrong reasons, after he gifted Karim Benzema a goal that saw Real through to the final. The German has asked for forgiveness.

"Words cannot describe the disappointment I am feeling after we went out of the Champions League," read the post on Sven Ulreich's Instagram. "We wanted to make it to the final and we gave everything."

The keeper didn't shirk from mentioning the incident that led to Real's second goal, and he apologised for his mistake. "I made an unneccesary mistake," he wrote. "I can't explain it. I am sorry. For my team and for my fans."

The shot-stopper had rushed out to clear a ball, but slipped and ended up leaving an open net for Karim Benzema, who scored to make it 2-1. Bayern equalised, but it wasn't enough and the Bavarians lost 4-3 on aggregate

Players have already come out to say that it is not Ulreich's fault that Bayern lost, and Javi Martinez joined in in the comment section of the German keeper's Instagram post, saying: "You saved our ass many times Ulle!"
