Alexsandr Ceferin, the UEFA president, revealed in an interview for 'The Times' that he will present a proposal so that the semi-finalists of the Champions League get automatic entry into next season's competition.

"We have to protect the clubs which reach far in the competition like Ajax and Monaco, which despite reaching the semi-finals, may not even be guaranteed to play in next season's Champions League," the president argued.

The Slovenian wants the semi-finalists to be assured of a place in next season's Champions League although it will have to be discussed at the next meeting on 11th September

At the same time, Alexsandr Ceferin was firm in his refusal to accept a European Super League: "It will not be made while I am here. I am not just the president for the big countries, but for all of the members including the small ones.

The UEFA president also defended the decision to give Baku the Europa League final despite the wave of protests: "We aren't going to wait until two weeks before to decide where to play the final. All UEFA members must have the chance to see top quality football and I must give everyone the opportunity.

In addition, the president also reiterated his intention to have a 'Champion of Champions' match which which would see the winner of the Copa America play the winner of the Euros: "Why am I going to have to ask permission from FIFA? They don't have anything to do with this. We are FIFA partners, not subordinates."
