After racist insults were heard from the Atletico fans during a Youth League match against Real Madrid, UEFA have decided to punish the club considerably. The team will play their next match behind closed doors, fined 30 000 euros, and will have to display banners displaying the message "no to racism" at their ground.

Atletico Madrid's 2-3 victory over Real Madrid at Valdebebas in the last 16 of the Youth League was marred by racist insults aimed at Peter and Marvel.

The UEFA committee of Control, Ethics and Discipline decided to take matters into their own hands and sanction the 'Rojiblancos'. Atletico will face a fine of 30 000 euros as well as playing their next match in the competition behind closed doors.

This punishment will carry over into next season as they will play the quarter finals in Dortmund and after that, it will be the 'Final Four' stage. Moreover, the team is obliged to display placards reading "no to racism" in their next home game.
