Napoli, drawn alongside Real Sociedad in the Europa League group stages, announced on Friday that their Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski and an assistant coach at the club both returned positive coronavirus tests on Thursday

It is bad news for Napoli. COVID-19 has made its way inside the club.

"After processing the results of the tests carried out this Thursday, the footballer Piotr Zielinski and the coach (outside the team bubble) Giandomenico Costi tested positive", the club reported on its Twitter account.

Zielinski and Costi's positive result comes after Naples faced Genoa last Sunday in their second Serie A match, a club that subsequently reported some 19 infections.

The Neapolitan team, coached by Gennaro Gattuso, had not registered any positive results in the first round of testing on Tuesday but carried out a second cycle of tests on Thursday in accordance with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) health protocol, which revealed the cases.

Zielinski and Costi will now isolate at home until they return two consecutive negative tests.

For now, Napoli will still be able to play their league match this Sunday against Juventus.
