Football fans were treated to another feast on Tuesday night as the Champions League returned once again. We take a look at some of the day's talking points.

1. Svilar's coming of age

All the talk after the last round of fixtures was about Mile Svilar's error which handed Manchester United a 1-0 at the Estadio Da Luz but in the return leg on Tuesday , the young Belgian turned in a sensational performance, making a string of saves as well as keeping out Anthony Martial's first half penalty. United's first of the night will go down as an own goal but there was nothing Svilar could do about that and it certainly shouldn't be held against him.

2. Lukaku's drought continues

After a sensational start to his Manchester United career, during which he scored 11 goals in 10 games, Romelu Lukaku has now failed to find the net in his last six outings, meaning that his drought has stretched eight hours in all competitions.

3. Chelsea end England's unbeaten record

Until Tuesday night, England's five representatives in the Champions League were yet to lose a game in the competition this term but Chelsea broke that proud record as they were thumped 3-0 by Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

4. Chelsea's woeful defending

Chelsea's woes in Rome can perhaps be summed up in the following tweet:

5. Layvin Kurzawa makes CL history

PSG left-back Laywin Kurzawa scored a hat-trick against Anderlecht as the French giants sealed their place in the knockout stages, becoming the first defender in history to score three times in a Champions League game.

6. Barca struggle in front of goal

Barcelona drew a blank against Olympiakos in Greece as they failed to score in a champions League Group Stage game for the first time in five years.

7. Fabregas joins the CL 100-club

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas became the fifth youngest player to make 100 Champions League appearances.
