Kylian Mbappe and Adrien Rabiot were both surprisingly dropped for PSG's trip to the Stade Velodrome to face Marseille in Le Classique on Sunday, with boss Thomas Tuchel now revealing the reasoning behind the decision.

The pair were named among the substitutes for the game, before coming off the bench in the second half. Mbappe made an almost instant impact, scoring the all-important opener just three minutes after being introduced.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel explained that the pair missed out on start due to discliplinary reasons.

"It was a disciplinary issue in the hotel before the match, and that's why we decided that they wouldn't start," he said.

"It's a shame because I don't like to play without Kylian and Adrien but today it was necessary and after that it's all good, it’s finished."

It appears that the pair were late to a team meeting prior to the game, leading Tuchel to take firm but fair measures.

The absence of two of their best players meant the Parisians found it difficult to break down the hosts for long spells, before a blistering turn of pace and cool finish from Mbappe on 65 minutes eventually broke the deadlock.

The win maintained Tuchel's side's 100% record in Ligue 1 so far this season as they sit top of the pile with 11 wins from 11.
