Tributes paid to Bradley Lowery

Sunderland have paid tribute to Bradley Lowery after his tragic passing. AFP

After the six-year-old's sad passing on Friday, Sunderland and several players have paid tribute to the youngster.

After hearing the sad news, the club released an official statement expressing their sorrow. 

The satement talked about Bradley's courage in his battle against Neuroblastoma, the way that football united in support of the youngster and thanked fans for their support and kindness.

Finally, it asked that the Lowery's be given privacy to grieve at this difficult time. The thoughts of everyone at BeSoccer are with you. R.I.P. Bradley.

Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Manone grew close to Bradley, even attending his brithday party alongside team-mate Jermain Defoe. In an interview with the club website Manone said: "It’s been a very tough day. Unfortunately, I got the news we never wanted to get when I got to the hotel and I had no words."

“I just sat thinking about him and tried to write a message. I have prayed for him and will pray for him every day – I’m so sorry to the family, I met them and I know how much they cared about Brad.”

“We’ve had a relationship with a kid who gave us more than many adults.

“I hope the family can sit tight and remember all of the good memories because he was brilliant and I’m very honoured that I met him.

“He gave me special moments and smiles that will live with me forever.”

Jermain Defoe, who was particularly close to the youngster took to Twitter to release a statement. It read: 

"Goodbye my friend gonna miss you lots. I feel so blessed God brought you into my life and had some amazing moments with you and for that I'm so grateful."

"I'll never ever forget the way you looked at me when I met you for the first time, the genuine love in those cute eyes. Really finding it hard to find words to express what you mean to me."

"The way you say my name, your little smiles  when the cameras come out like a little superstar and the love I felt when I was with you. Your courage and bravery will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life."

"You will never know what a difference you made to me as a person. God has you in his arms and I will always carry you in my hear. Sleep tight little one. My best friend."
