Out-of-favour Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen is facing a spell on the sidelines after undergoing minor surgery on a foot injury.

The Dutch international spent last season on loan with Fenerbahce in Turkey and was expected to leave the club permanently before the European transfer deadline.

However, this setback could put paid to any move, with Spurs neglecting to place a definitive timescale on his recovery.

The club merely said that the 24-year-old "will now go through a period of recovery and rehabilitation overseen by our medical staff."

Janssen joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar in his homeland back in 2016 for a fee thought to have been in the region of £17m but struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, scoring just two goals in27 league appearances for the club.
