Fernando Torres gave the Atletico Madrid faithful the farewell gift they were all hoping for on Sunday as he found the net against Eibar.

The whole day had been earmarked as a tribute to the Atleti icon, with Torres being handed the captaincy by Diego Simeone and the home fans unveiling a huge banner pre-match celebrating his rise through the ranks at the club.

However, the day threatened to go nightmarishly after the experienced striker missed a fine early chance and Kike Garcia fired the visitors into the lead at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The home fans should never have worried though, as Torres duly found the net just before the break.

Angel Correa was put in over the top and with 60,000 fans urging him to square the ball for their departing hero, he duly did so, with Torres rolling the ball into the back of the empty net to sent the stadium into raptures.
