Fernando Torres gave Atletico Madrid a parting gift on Sunday as he scored twice on his final appearance for the club to secure them a 2-2 draw with Eibar at the Wanda Metropolitano.

With Real Madrid's 2-2 draw with Villarreal on Saturday secuing second place for Atletico Madrid, Sunday was always going to be more about Torres than it was the result.

The man from Fuenlabrada was handed the captain's armband by manager Diego Simeone, whilst the home fans unveiled a huge banner before kick-off in tribute to his rise through the ranks at the club.

With both sets of players perhaps distracted by the party atmosphere in the Spanish capital the game got off to a slow start, though Torres should have scored after being put in by Angel Correa, only to steer an effort wide with only Marko Dmitrovic to beat.

Eibar soon punished the hosts for that miss as Kike Garcia raced in to steer an effort beyond Jan Oblak on the slide and open the scoring with 35 minuts on the clock.

However, this was Torres' day and he raised the roof just before the break as he rolled home an equaliser after having the ball squared into his path by Correa.
